Trauma and Disaster Studies

This one year specialized training in trauma and disaster intervention is designed specifically for psychoanalysts who wish to improve their understanding and clinical skills in working with survivors of traumas.  The scheduling of courses – over six weekends - allows those outside of New York City to participate.

The comprehensive curriculum covers a range of theoretical and technical issues offering candidates an opportunity to learn from experts in the field and providing a forum in which to further understanding of psychic functioning under extreme conditions.

Topics covered in weekend seminars held in the fall, winter and spring will include among others:

Fall: Psychoanalytic Overview of Trauma (history of concepts, treatment and controversies)

Winter: Adult Onset Trauma (psychodynamics and treatment of survivors of catastrophic trauma) 

Spring: Childhood Onset Trauma (understanding and treating survivors of sexual and physical abuse, attachment problems, traumatic loss)

In addition to courses and case seminars, eight one and a half hour process groups facilitated by members of the teaching staff will be offered.

Eligibility: Graduates from or senior candidates at psychoanalytic institutes who are licensed mental health professionals.

On completing 30 hours of coursework, 20 clinical seminar hours, and 12 process group hours, the Specialization in Trauma and Disaster Studies will issue a Letter of Completion.

Cost: $2,000.00
